I retired from the carpet business after 30 years and no longer sell or install any flooring products. I now enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience with homeowners who want to learn how to choose new carpet and flooring wisely. I've spent most of my life in the Carpet and Floor Covering business, as did my father, a mill rep for Berven Carpets of California for over 35 years. My father was passionate about the carpet business and a valuable source of wisdom and insight. Many of my family members had successful careers in the carpet business.

I Really Hate Scams and Rip-Offs!

Back in the early 1990's, I was alarmed at the number of dishonest carpet and flooring dealers I encountered. I witnessed store owners, managers and commissioned salespeople lie, cheat and deceive their customers. They used sneaky and underhanded sales tactics to over-charge their customers. I also found some carpet manufacturers making deceptive claims about the durability and stain resistance of their products.

The Tip of the Iceberg!Alan Fletcher aka The Carpet Professor

Carpet scams are very common today and can be difficult to avoid. There are good and bad flooring retailers out there, but it's hard for homeowners to tell the difference. So in 1998, I decided to do something to make a difference by sharing my carpet knowledge and experience with consumers via the internet. Since then, I've been helping homeowners learn how to choose carpet wisely, how to avoid common retail scams, and not fall prey to sneaky sales gimmicks.
