How Much Should You Spend On New Carpet?  

The amount you need to spend on carpet all depends on the Level of Foot-Traffic you have in your home... In Heavy Foot-Traffic applications you must choose a higher grade (better quality) carpet than if you have a low or medium traffic application.

I have a quick and easy way to help you to determine the Level of Foot Traffic you have in your home by answering a few simple questions... First take my free Carpet Foot-Traffic Test to get your score then answer these (2) questions:

 

1. What is Your Level of Foot-Traffic?

Low,  Medium,  Moderate,  Heavy?

2. How Long Do You Want Your Carpet to Last?

5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years?

To use my Carpet Cost Chart below, simply cross reference your Level of Foot Traffic with the Number of Years you want your New Carpet to Last. The corresponding number you find is the approximate COST for Carpet that is designed meet your needs and goals. 

 

For example, if you have Medium Foot Traffic and you want your carpet to Last 10 Years  you should expect to pay about $28 per yard for the right grade or quality of carpet. (providing you buy from a reputable carpet dealer)

 

1. Carpet Price vs. Longevity Chart for 2024

The least expensive carpet you can buy will not be from a big box store or national chain. The lowest price for carpet will be found to your local flooring store. Many family-run carpet stores carry rolls of carpet in stock and are very reasonably priced. Check out my list of preferred dealers near you that have met my strict standards for inclusion. Once you know what your level of foot traffic in your home is, then selecting the right carpet should be easy right? Nope! That's why so many homeowners end up buying the wrong carpet and are unhappy with their purchase. It's difficult to tell which carpets are good quality and which ones are poorly made. You can't make your choice based solely on price, appearance or feel alone. You have to take the time to learn what makes one carpet better than another.

Rebond Carpet Padding (Residential) Roll Prices for Standard Rebond Pad Only. This is not what you will pay for padding if you purchase new carpet, padding and installation as a complete package deal from a reputable locally-owned carpet retailer. 

 

 You can save money by purchasing carpet padding in full rolls from a local distributor or home improvement warehouse. Shown below are 2022 pad prices found online Most padding costs have ticked up slightly over the past 2 years, but some padding prices have actually stayed the same or gone down a bit. The available padding options are separated by roll size, padding density and padding thickness.

 

Cash and carry means you have to visit the store to make your selection, pay for it, transport it, store it and make it readily available at the job site for the installers you hire. These prices do not include Moisture Barrier, Memory Foam or other Types of Specialized Carpet Padding.

Best Padding Choices

Don't be duped into paying more for a specialty padding that you don't need!
