The best installers prefer to work with well established locally-owned carpet stores. They may not need to take on any side jobs. Hiring an independent carpet installer can best difficult and time consuming.
I think it is better to buy from a local carpet store and have them provide the installation as part of a package deal. That way if you ever have any installation concerns, you just have to make one call to the retailer to get a remedy.
